![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Going Cairo.......DO NOT MISS THESE PLACES!!!!! Aug 08, 2008
me and my sister stayed in cairo for six days after visiting sharm el shiekh.... 1st peice of advice, if u are going sharm and cairo, go to cairo first as sharm is a beautiful holiday resort so you may go to cairo with high expectations as me and my sister did and realise it doesnt have the same holiday feeling!!!!!
Luckily we met some extremely freindly egyptian freinds from TRAVBUDDY who made our stay in cairo a memorable experince!!!! when i say must see and do.......... i mean MUST SEE AND DO or u will miss out * Nile cruise - go in the evening so u are in time for the sunset and the evening breeze. to go on the big fancy boats with dinner and belly dancers u have to book in advance. disadvantage of that is u cant enjoy the surroundings as much. i preferrred the smaller boats on which there was just the four of us, its soooooo much better!!! (i think it was 15L.E per person) * azhar park- no place like it if ur from the uk. absolutely gorgeous place to walk through and they have a really big playground area for kids! (entrance fee is cheap) also sit on one of the high grass areas to watch the sunset...the actual sun sinking slowly! * the citadel, beautifull area which has the Mohamed Ali mosque located in the courtyard which is beautifull from the outside and very ancient from the inside with the grave of Mohamed Ali. dont foget to walk around the courtyard to where you can see the view of islamic cairo and if you really focus ur eyes u can see 2 pyramids at a distance!! * giza pyramids and the sphinx, obviously a must see if u are going egypt! they are both located in the same area. but be carefull once u have entered the pyramids entrance u may get someone who asks u for ur tickets and then asks u to follow him, we gave our tickets thinking he was a representative of some sort, turned out he was just a local guide showing us around and then asked for money!!!! * egyptian museum, not a must see if ur not a historical person, i paid just to see a few tombs and mummies (additional fee). i got bored really quickly! they say no cameras allowed in but we got away with taking over 100 pics on our phone!!!! they didnt confiscate our phones they just told us off when they saw us....just be careful......u may not be as lucky, we had our egyptian freinds so we were care free ('',) * definately get a kfc and then eat it at the muqattam mountains at night (take a cardigan if u are wearing daytime summer clothes, it gets a bit chilly) with the view of cairo and night! mindblowing! * khan khalili Bazaar, very nice place, u may get hassle but thats normal just dont get over charged which is also normal if u dont know how to negotiate a price. also within the bazaar is AL FESHAWY which is and old cafe where everyone smokes shisha. good place to try it but keep in mind u do get a little dehydrated even if u dont try the shisha!!!! also they have a show for tourists in some part near the bazaar which i saw on my last night.....it was something different but slighlty awkward because its male dancers in coulourful skirts....but its still a good experience!!!!! one last peice of advice, if u have egyptian freinds u dont need to worry, from my experience the egyptian hospitatility is warm and welcoming!!! they will also get u some good prices in the bazaar...which is fun to watch!!! but if u are on ur own and do not like the hassle just firmly say "LA SHUKRAN" which means no thank you!!! ANY QUESTIONS JUST EMAIL ME ('',) |
