Cairn Hotel May 30, 2013
The hotel is located just outside the old city area of Edinburg and it is in easy walking distance from the old town and the Cairn Hotel is located just at the foot of the famous Carlton hill which is the home to several monuments including the Nelson Monument and the National Monument of Scotland. So the hotel got a good location for doing some early morning if you got a little time before heading out of time like I did in the morning. It is also a decent base for sightseeing in and around the old town of Edinburg sightseeing at the hill or the old city itself.

The hotel takes up more or less on side of a street in the outskirts of the old city. The reception is somewhat withdrawn from the entrance at the backside of the hotel so it appears a little dark but the receptionist is pretty helpful and the check-in procedure is smooth and they can give basic info of Edinburg if you need it. The hotel has probably been used to something else originally so the inside design is a bit strange with long hallways where you need to go a bit left and right to get down the long halls. This makes it a bit confusing to find your room since the hotel is built like you would expect - but after looking around for a moment you should be able to identify the location of your room.

You can park a car outside on the street - but remember to do it on the opposite side of the street from the hotel since the parking spaces next to the hotel are for permit holders only. You can only park for a limited time on the street - but the hotel has available parking permits if you need to park for a longer period of time.

The room is reasonable big and there is a fairly modern bathroom. Outside the window there is a view to some sort of back garden - but I couldn’t really see any access from the hotel to the garden so I am not sure if guest will actually be able to use the garden. The small street with the hotel seems to be fairly quite during the early morning so all of the hotel is probably quite - but my room was facing away from the street so there were no sign of traffic noise reaching the room so I had a good night’s sleep in there.

There is a small breakfast restaurant at the hotel next to the reception area. But the breakfast isn’t included in the room rate so you have to pay extra for the breakfast - I think the price was about £5 for breakfast so you might prefer finding breakfast somewhere else. There is no restaurant for evening meals but you can easily go to the center of town for your dinner and just walk back to the hotel at night time.

Cairn Hotel Edinburgh Feb 27, 2012
The Cairn Hotel is a cosy hotel in the city centre of Edinburgh, at walking distance from the main attractions of Edinburgh: Edinburgh castle, Palace of Holyrood House, The Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh Zoo and St. Giles Cathedral.

The hotel is clean, the service is good, but on the other hand, the corridors are quite narrow and it looks more like a maze, which could lead to terrible situations if something would happen. Nonetheless, I would recommend this hotel to those who are planning to travel to this beautiful city, since the prices are quite good and the hotel is located in an quiet area!

Ideal location May 17, 2011
The Cairn is a ideal location for a base when your in Edinburgh. It is a 10 minutes was from the main train station and also within easy distance of the Royal mile and Castle. The rooms are very clean and cleaned every day. If you go Monday to friday it is very cheap to stay and can payy for breakfast on an a daily basis if wanted. The Hotel is a stones throw from Calton Hill

Very good value for money Oct 20, 2009
I booked this place through www.booking.com. £30 per night (approx 34 euro) for a single room with ensuite during week. £38 (about 43 euro) at weekend. A fairly good continental breakfast £4 (about 4.50 euro) extra.

Great central location, about 15 minutes walk to Prince's St. Plenty of restaurants, cafes and pubs nearby. Easy walk to Carlton Hill for great views of the city.

Free wifi in room and public areas.

Staff not the friendliest. Room was very clean and comfortable. Some of the public areas were a bit shabby, particularly the carpet.

All in all though, a very good place to stay and I recommend it highly.
