Cafe Zur Rheinhalle Eltville Reviews
Jun 18, 2007
We've been to Café Zur Rheinhalle pretty much every time we come to Eltville.
The place itself isn't too much out of the ordinary. A relatively small restaurant sits on the side of the river and serves the usual rustic German foods that you get in the area. Although the menu is relatively limited the portions are generous and the ingredients fresh and well prepared. Vegetarians aren't that well catered for but if you like your meat and fish then you can't very well go wrong.
What singles this place out though is it's outside eating area cum beer garden. Overlooked by the castle and surrounded on three sides by a lush hedge the fourth runs right up against the river with the water lapping just below the low fence that separates you from getting wet.
The tables are arranged in rows and everyone makes a be-line for the riverside ones where you can enjoy your food, your beer, or your wine whilst you watch the boats going backwards and forwards, up and down the river. The main area has the benefit of some rather large umbrellas to offer a bit of shelter should the weather turn a bit inclement. Better still the a narrow strip of decking alongside the building contains a couple of tables completely covered by a veranda so even in the most torrential of weather, as long as it's not too cold you can still sit in the fresh air and while away the hours.
