Cafe Nanette
Cafe Nanette Reviews

Since to my knowledge, Tambacounda doesn't have street names like in the U.S., it's difficult to direct one to this location. The best I can do is say it's near a major intersection. Down the road from that intersection is a large mechanic yard on either side of the road. There may be several such locations in Tamba but if you recognize it, you're close. I do know that it is on the far west end of Tambacounda a block or two from one of the only (if not the only) Christian churches that holds a weekly bazaar. Cafe Nanette is between a pharmacy and an internet cafe.
Jean Paul, the proprietor, is the man to see. He will take care of you. If you bring him a Bob Marley CD or two (or any decent CD for that matter) for the cafe, he'll probably even throw in a free meal! Here you can get a most excellent steak dinner if you're craving some 'western style' food, colas, a beer (biere), wine if you aren't picky and a standard selection of spirits (rum anyone?). And as long as the power hasn't been out previously for hours (the power company shuts down often for several hours), the drinks will be cold! The people are pretty friendly (especially if you run into Mary who hails from Nigeria originally and is a 'coiffure' (hairdresser)) and the proprietor is the best! If you tell him Leah sent you, he just might remember (if he does, tell him I say 'hi') and will treat you good! He'll even help you flag down a taxi and get a decent fare when it's time to go.
Fun behind the bar! Proprietor …
