Cafe Du Tukon Batan Island Reviews
Best food in Batan Island Jan 19, 2015
The food prices in Batan on the average cost around Php250/head/meal and Cafe Du Tukon costs Php300 up. The reason for the relatively high cost is because most food were transported from Manila and considering the additional cost of transporting food plus the fact that the flight cost is expensive from Manila to Batan, it seem justifiable that they need to charge high for food.
For us, it was worth the price and the extra effort of going out of the way to eat at Cafe du Tukon. This is the only place in Batan island where we feel satisfied. Others were just ok. Going there by Trike cost 250/way. So thats additional cost to consider. We took the trike once when we had dinner there bec we felt it will be safer considering it is dark and cold and we arent that familiar with the road. For the two other times we had lunch, we went there using our rented scooter. Pretty cool.
The service were pleasant in general although one staff isnt a smiling type. Nevertheless, it was ok and others were more warm with smile and small chat.
Reservations is almost a requirement for non-guest and you need to place a reservation by 3pm for dinner so they can accommodate you. As explained by a friendly staff, this is because they prefer to only buy/harvest what is needed so everything is fresh and nothing is wasted. That's why they would need sufficient time, before dark, to buy and harvest from their farm, the necessary ingredient for our order. This also means they need 2 hrs to have your food prepared.
Pasta dishes may be served without such prior time allowance. There are only two options for that though. Both are ok but you would prefer the main courses. :)
We placed a late reservation for our third visit and we cant be accommodated so they asked to accommodate us the next day. The following day, we got a call from them asking if we wish to make table reservation and sent us the menu. I appreciate that extra effort. Therefore we were able to book for a dinner and were seated in the reserved area for guests.
The food were great, best dishes we tasted in Batan. My most favorite is Paella Ivatan. My companion liked the panna cota for dessert and ordered it several times. We also get to try the Calamansi pie and find it a good and interesting one. I also like the salmon and other fish dishes with pasta side dishes.
Highly recommended and will definitely go back if I'm in Basco again :)
