![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Oct 09, 2004Cafe Adler really needs to be experienced in the rain whilst wearing a wet raincoat. It is redolent of Berlin's history, being only a few yards from Checkpoint Charlie, the notorious border crossing between East and West Berlin: West Berliners would repair to the Cafe to eat, drink, smoke and watch whatever there was to watch. There are two rooms, one behind the other, and I certainly felt that I was stepping back in time when I walked in. Today it is a somewhat gloomy establishment, where the friendly staff serve drinks, snacks and full meals. Traditional German comfort food is a speciality, with many items not on the printed menu being displayed on boards, and both my friend and I very much enjoyed our meals. Prices are perfectly reasonable, and although I only had time to go there once I would certainly return. It does get very busy, as Checkpoint Charlie is a tourist honeypot.
