Café des Jacobins Lyon Reviews
Café des Jacobins Dec 06, 2009
Sunday morning we were quite fresh but didn’t check out of our hotel room before 10 am. We wanted to make the best use of the morning in Lyon before heading back towards Bruxelles and we had talked about making a stop in St. Aubin on the way home as well.
We drove in to the city centre and were naive enough to believe that we could find a parking there. We had luck; it actually turned out to be very easy to find a place to park and we got a spot on Place des Jacobins, just in front of Café des Jacobins. The café looked like a nice place for coffee and a croissant so we entered.
Inside the talk was active, eager and noisy; these people had definitely not partied all night, they were morning people from the market and old friends continuing their Sunday routine. There were both a waiter and a waitress behind the counter; she was making the coffee and he was doing the tables.
The waiter was a good sales guy; pushing coffee by asking for a refill and he always gave two croissants when people were asking for one. Like both of us; we had both of them. He spent a lot of time talking to one of his friends hanging out in the bar but kept always an eye on his customers.
The interior was a mix of 50th, 60th and 70th design; the chairs, the benches, the wooden panels and the yellow orange colours that looked like they were taken out of Werner Panton’s wet dream.
We both like the atmosphere and original café culture. It was a place I could pop in to often if it was situated close to where I worked or lived.
