Art Deco café Mar 14, 2017
This gem of a restaurant-cafe is located in the southern outskirts in a nice residential area. The name "Weinberg" refers to the former vineyards (from about 1650 to 1890) at this south-facing hillside. A visit of this cafe is recommended for the architecture alone: It was built 1913, the interior was designed by famous architect Richard Riemerschmid and done by Werkstätten Hellerau. Most of it is originally preserved, a few items were reconstructed in 2008.

It is surprisingly large, with several separate rooms, a cosy corner here and a sunny veranda there, a terrace is also there in case the weather co-operates. Beautiful view of the Kaitzbach valley below and even some of Saxon Switzerland's flat-top mountains in the far distance.

Service is friendly, relaxed, not overly quick. The whole place has a neighbourhood/family-run ambience.

For opening hours see their website, generally spoken it is closed on Mondays, open Tuesdays/Wednesdays from 2 pm, the rest of the week from lunch time to late evening.

We had a piece of Black Forest fancy cake (good, but too much cherry-schnapps used in my opinion) and a piece of raspberry-yoghurt fancy cake (delicious!) - 3.10 Euro per piece, which is a bit overpriced - a cup of coffee (1.70 Euro) and a cappuccino (2.20 Euro). We went back on a Wednesday afternoon (in December), the day of the week with a special offer: 3.80 Euro for a piece of cake plus coffee. Yum! And the whole cafe was christmassy decorated - very nice.

Good architecturally as well as gastronomically, it seems.
