Café Restaurant de Ponteneur Amsterdam Reviews
Up-to-date nostalgia Mar 09, 2014
On this nice, sunny Sunday afternoong we ended up at the Ponteneur, daughter knew the place because she frequented this place quite a few times. This cafe/restaurant is in the lively older part of eastern Amsterdam, in the vicinity of the "Dappermarkt", "Indische buurt" and Muiderpoort railwaystation. All the tables outside on the terrace were occupied so we went indoors where there was a big lecture table and plenty of little old wooden tables.
The restaurant is in an old building, which means with very high ceilings, and these were painted in a warm amber hue. With the walls in a light apricot tone this made a nice contrast with the turquoise chests for glasses, bottles and other utensils. On the walls are blackboards with the menu written on them, but a printed menu is also brought to your table. From the restaurant you can see the chefs at work in the kitchen. Overall the atmosphere is "perfectly fine".
We started with a Belgian Kriek Lambik, a tart cherry beer with some natural sweetness, which we both like very much. It was very busy so it took awhile before our meals were served, but it was worth waiting for. Although we just had something simple it was nicely presented, and of very good quality. We did not want or need anything else, but then a lady at an adjoining table had warm chocolate with fresh whipped cream and we started mouthwatering so we ordered it as well for both of us. Satisfied we left for home again.
