Café René Haugesund Reviews
French inspired café on the quay Jul 16, 2010
Café René is a french inspired café located on the ground floor of the Rica Maritim Hotel.
The interior is modern and the lighting is particularly fancy. The first time I was there the interior was black and red, the second time black and yellow, so I thought that they had redecorated, but no! It was only the lighting they had changed. The waiter showed me how they do it. Pretty fancy! In the summer they also have outdoor dining, the biggest in town, which is very nice since the hotel is located right on the quay. The staff is also very nice and helpful and do a good job in fulfilling your wishes.
Café René serves typical café food like cakes, croissants and muffins and they have a separate extensive coffee and tea menu. If you would like something more filling they also serve soups, salads, sandwiches and omelets. Main dishes are pasta ($15), chicken and steak ($48).
Last time I was there I had the omelet ($13). There is a list of 23 ingredients from which you can chose your favorite three. The omelet is served in a mini iron skillet. It was good, but very small.
Café René is a good place for a coffee as well as lunch, but I would look for another place to have dinner. It is not a place I would pay $48 for a steak. The price is way too expensive. A selection of local and imported cheese served with two glasses of wine, fruit, bread and biscuits for two persons for $31, on the other hand, is a much better deal.
Cafe René is open every day from 10am - midnight (kitchen close at 10pm).
