Café Les Postiers Brussels Reviews
Café Les Postiers Dec 12, 2008
Just next to where I work in the Place De Brouckère you can find "Café Les Postiers", which is one of the places I like to visit after work on a Friday evening with some colleagues.
Originally "Café Les Postiers" was situated in front of the Grande Poste (The central Mail Office in Brussels) where the mail passing through the capital was selected before distribution. The postmen used either to start or to finish their round in that tavern. "Café Les Postiers" was in that time a popular place where the ones who run Brussels, with heavy bags of love and congratulations letters…
" C´était au temps oú Bruxelles chantait….Place De Brouckère, il y avait l´omnibus !! ( from the song « Bruxelles " of Jacques Brel)
During more than half a century, this café was considered as the annexe of the Main Post but today the culture of the Post has changed and it is now mainly frequented as a lunch restaurant for the people working in the area.
The café has still a folkloric and historical aspect; the interior is kept in a very traditional Brussels style, it has still old columns and varnished oak benches and engraved mirrors. I find it cosy and picturesque and it gives warm atmosphere, which attracks a mix of people. The food is basically based traditional products and it is a good place to get a lunch meal or quick and unpretentious meal in the evening.
It is a café where you can get enriched by tasting a waste number Abbeys beers but also tradional beers like Stella Artois, Blanche de Hoegaerden, Leffe, Kriek, Duvel, Chimay, Orval, Westmalle, Bush, etc…but I prefer to get a Cuvee de Troll here: they are served in small 25 cl bottles, so you need to buy at least two to enjoy a good one.
