Caernarfon Wales Feb 24, 2018
Caernarfon a town in north west of Wales United Kingdom,on the shore of the Menai Strates is famous for its huge Castle. The population of the town is around 10,000. The city of Bangor is just 8 miles away and Llanberis also 8 miles.--Caernarfon castle was built by the English after the Welsh war of Independence in 1282 by King Edward 1. Building began in 1283 , it was to be his royal palace cum took nearly 50 years to build,----In 1969 Prince Charles was made Prince of Wales by the Queen Elizabeth 11, his mother. A Welsh Slate circle marks the place the crowning took place in the castle open air.-- There is a admission charge for the castle which includes entry to Royal Welsh Fusiliers Regiment Museum in the castle.--- The town as a medieval wall and gates.--The old Market built in 1832 is a Grade2 listed building, in Hole in the wall street. i enjoyed a Dutch Pancake and a pot of tea in a nice cafe also in this street.--Near the castle is a statue of David Lloyd George which was erected in 1921, when he was Prime Minister of Great Britian. He was a member of Parliament for the area ,from 1890 to 1945.-- Caernarfon town narrow streets are enjoyable places to stroll round.-----I had travelled from Llandudno Gloddaeth street by bus. Fare £5-50 return. [2017] Bus station in Caernarfon is in Bridge street -Poolside area.-- The nearest main line rail station to Caernarfon is Bangor 8 miles away.-- A heritage steam railway runs from Caernarfon to Porthmadog
