Caen is the second largest city in Normandy (North west of France). It is loaded with European history, in particular with its historical buildings, as William the Conqueror had made it his homebase. A must see is the old fortress as well as abbeys and the city WWII Memorial for Peace.
It is only two hours drive north-west of Paris, and connected to the south of England by the Ouistreham-Portsmouth ferry route.
Also only a few miles from the coast, the WWII landing beaches and several famous coast resorts.
Nice shopping areas, in car free-zones, in the city center.
