A visit too soon Oct 30, 2010
Yes, we were too early - or much too late - to see these locks in action on the Kennet and Avon Canal. We stayed for a night on our way home from Dorset, specifically to see them in their ruined state and found that work was in progress to restore them.

Given how impressive I find the flight of only 5 on the Leeds-Liverpool, htis has to be really spectacular. In total there are 29 locks with a rise of 237 feet in 2 miles (72 m in 3.2 km) or a 1 in 44 gradient. However it is 16 of them, really close together up a steep hill that I should love to see in use
