Friendly, if slightly chaotic Oct 28, 2016
This restaurant is in a lovely old house just a short distance from our hotel, so we naturally decided to try it one evening. There are a few tables set out in the garden, but there was a slight chill in the air so we opted to eat inside, where a succession of small rooms gives you the sense of being in someone’s home.

I started with a mango pisco sour which was absolutely wonderful – possibly the best sour I had during our three week visit to Chile! My main course tuna was rather salty (this seems to be a quite common issue in Chile) but cooked nicely pink. Chris's warm chicken salad was fine but nothing special. The deserts though were excellent – for Chris, Death by Chocolate and for me, passion fruit mousse. The price was very reasonable too – 28,000 pesos including a tip for the two courses and two drinks each.

We had some interesting language challenges here. Our waiter didn't speak English so we struggled a little with the ordering and had opted for dishes which our limited Spanish could translate. After we had ordered, the friendly owner Jorge, who DID speak English, came over to introduce himself and check if we had any problems - too late to help with the menu but a friendly gesture nevertheless. When it came to ordering dessert, to our surprise the waiter produced an English menu and we could see clearly all the dishes that had puzzled us, some of which would have appealed to us. When one dessert we ordered proved unavailable the waiter helpfully resorted to texting the owner, who was no longer around, to get the English phrase he needed to explain this. We were rather surprised therefore when we left to see him outside drinking with friends! But really the language problems (which after all are of our making as we speak almost no Spanish) didn't detract from the evening while the friendliness and eagerness to help of both waiters and owner certainly added to it – as did that amazing mango pisco sour!
