Great Sampling! Oct 14, 2008
Cabot Creamery was most delicious tour of those that we took. Hands down. The tour has three parts. You start out with a video that tells the history of Cabot Creamery. It was very informative and we learned that the Cabot cheeses kick butt in the cheese competitions around the globe, in addition to how the creamery was started to generate a market for the milk that being produced by all the local farmers.

Next it the production part of the tour. Depending on what part of the process you come in on you might see nothing but milk standing in vats. Or you might see it being stored, or raked, or watch as the solids are separated from the liquid. The next part involves the solids being pressed and finally the aged solids being packaged. It is a nice dance between automation and manual labor.

After that you are turned loose in their gift shop. Almost everything they sell is set up for sampling. If you like cheese, welcome to heaven. They will ship your order home, but only during the cold months, as they can’t refrigerate them to ship.

The only downside about our visit was the two tour buses that showed up and filled the gift shop. I understand that this is a semi-regular occurrence. So be prepared to deal with a crowd. The tour is two dollars per person
