The CAPE is located 42 km. west of Lisbon and 18 km. west of Sintra. Its co-ordinates are inscribed on a stone plaque on the monument at the site. The cliff rises out of the Atlantic Ocean to approximately 140 metres above sea level. This wild and majestic site is continental Europe's most western point and a very popular tourist attraction.
The red and white Lighthouse which sits on top of the cliff, watches over the sea to help sailors on their journey.
Construction of the Lighthouse was completed in 1772. The lighthouse stands 72 feet tall with a square masonry tower and red lantern. It was automated in 1980

Cabo Da Roca Nov 16, 2012
After an interesting drive up and down winding roads was Cabo Da Roca. This tranquil lookout boasts a beautiful view of the most western point of mainland Europe. Formerly believed to be considered the edge of the world. A short trip and a must-do when visiting Lisbon!
I will warn travellers however NOT to wear headwear (or loose clothing - especially dresses for the ladies) as it does get very windy and I almost lost a few articles of clothing.

I were watching Atlantic Ocean remembering Lord Byron's Epitaph to a Dog:" Near this Spot
are deposited the Remains of one
who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity,
and all the Virtues of Man without his Vices.
This praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery
if inscribed over human Ashes..."
And as it says on the Roca ... were the land ends and sea begins...
