A small cafe with free wifi! Nov 04, 2009
The Cabe Merah is just a small cafe along the street just across from the Mercure Resort. We visited here a few times because they offered free wifi. It is outdoor seating, so no air conditioning. But their cold Bintangs, Bali Hais and selection of several other cold tropical drinks help cool you down.
They don't have a huge selection of food on their menu; basically sandwiches, burgers, and some popular Indonesian dishes. But we liked their food, and their prices were very reasonable.
The employees were friendly and didn't mind us loitering around using their wifi, even long after we finished our food and drinks.
One memorable thing about this place is the resident bat that has lived there for 17 years. It has a broken wing, so it just climbs around in the tree. One of the employees gave me a slice of cucumber to feed the bat and said I could pat it on the head if I wanted. Well, I fed it but didn't pet it. I didn't know bats could get this big.
