CAB Scandinavia Inn Copenhagen Reviews

The Cab Inn is a small chain of a few hotels in Denmark, half of which are in Copenhagen. Their motto is Sleep Cheap in Luxury. Clearly, I have a very different definition of "luxury" than the Danes. ok, so they put a small tv in each room (with only danish and swedish channels), and a kettle, tea, and coffee in each room. But luxury? that might be a bit of a stretch.

Nonetheless, the Cab Inn isn't a bad hotel, particularly considering the prices of hotels in Copenhagen, particularly during peak (summer) season. There are three Cab Inn hotels in Copenhagen, one in Aarhus, and one somewhere on the left coast of the country. The Cab Inn City is about two blocks south of the train station and Tivoli, so it is quite convenient and easy to get to. However, if you keep your window open you can hear the rides at Tivoli a bit, and there is also a police station across the the street -- though I rarely heard sirens.

A single is about 71 euros, and the same room but for two people is 87 euros. The basic room has bunk beds -- yes, bunk beds. Actually, there is even a third trundle bed (full size) so that the room can be a triple. But the rooms are quite small -- as most hotel rooms in Copenhagen are -- so I am not sure where anyone would put their bags if the third mattress were pulled out so that someone could sleep on it. There are also rooms with larger beds, though I have not seem one of them personally.

The rooms also have a tall somewhat narrow window which doubles as the door to step out onto the balcony. The views, mostly, are nothing to write home about. But at least it is fresh air, which is nice in the summer. Each room also has its own bathroom, which is, like the rest of the room, tiny. Spacewise perhaps it is a bit larger than the bathroom at the hotel in which I stayed in Monaco, but the sink and shower are also connected. There are two things at the sink -- one is the hot/cold/on/off thing, and the other switches the water from the sink to the shower. The shower is in the far corner and just has a shower curtain that closes in a circle around yourself -- but without including the sink (some other Copenhagen hotels to do that). Which means that to turn the shower on or off, you have to open up part of the shower curtain. In other words, the bathroom gets soaked. But at least it's a private bathroom.

Breakfast is usually included in the room price, but I think it may be possible to not pay for the breakfast. Considering how expensive Denmark is, I would recommend the breakfast because you eat breakfast there and pack yourself a lunch, too. There is the typical European breakfast spread -- cereal museli, yogurt, breads, meats, cheeses, and drinks. The coolest is the cheese machine that takes two large things of cheese and slices them in perfect slices with such ease. Quite possibly the best part of the Cab Inn.

The hotel also has wireless in the lobby and breakfast room, though I had some difficulties getting it to work. The guy at the front desk told me that European computers seem to work by not American ones, but I don't buy that. It may not be as luxurious as you might think from the hotel's slogan, but compared to what else is in Copenhagen, it is actually a much better price for about the same small room.

Very small rooms, but very clean, affordable and all you really need when traveling. Close to Copenhagen Central train station, the city center, Tivoli, Nyhavn, the Stroget shopping district and the Little Mermaid all within walking distance.

CAB INN City is recommended if you are travelling on a reasonable/low budget. Book well in advance -especially for the turist season..
