By plane to Middlesbrough (Durham Tees Valley Airport) Jul 20, 2008
Durham/Tees Valley Airport (formerly known as Teesside Airport) is nowhere near Durham but between Darlington and Middlesbrough. Its IATA - 3-letter-code (MME) goes in the direction of Midllesbrough as well. However, it has only around four flights a day to Aberdeen (Eastern Airways) and Amsterdam (KLM) each. The next airports with more flights are Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester.

If you want to use this airport anyway, please keep in mind that there are few public transport options to get from/to the airport. The railway station (Teesside Airport) has only two trains a week and is not really an option. The next railway station is "Dinsdale", located in the village of Middleton/St. George which is a 40 Minute walk from the terminal away.

This leaves the bus line number 12 as the only feasible public transport option. The bus however does not go to Middlesbrough but to Darlington (via Middleton/St. George). So the easiest way to get from the airport to Middlesbrough is to catch the bus and get a train from Dinsdale to Middlesbrough. Bus No. 12 runs every hour, tickets available from the driver. The trains between Darlington (via Dinsdale) and Middlesbrough run every 30 minutes on weekdays. A single journey from Dinsdale to Middlesbrough was 4,80 GBP in 2015. As travel time can easily exceed 1 ½ hours, a flight to Newcastle or Manchester may be an intreresting option as these airports have better connections to the railway network.
