Reasonably priced hotel with central location in Tsim Sha Tsui Nov 08, 2012
This hotel is one of the reasonably priced ones in the Tsim Sha Tsui area. Relatively newer compared to the others there, and we booked this through a travel agency I've known for many years already. Ten persons, including 3 kids 10 years old and below. While we initially had problems with checking in - the rooms were supposed to be available by noon, then 2PM, then 3PM, the front desk staff were generally patient and friendly. We finally got our rooms set up almost 5PM as there were requests for extra beds. Main reason for the delay was that the hotel was booked full the previous night, although I think it was the lack of housecleaning staff that aggravated it.
Butterfly on Prat is primarily ideal for couples, or those without children. There are about a dozen rooms on each floor, and children running along the corridors can be quite noisy. Make sure you request for a room on the higher floors, as the street downstairs can be noisy with cars honking their horns loudly when there's traffic along Prat Ave. There are a few convenience stores less than 3 minutes walk away, and you can buy food supplies and snacks as the rooms provide a refrigerator (empty) and microwave. The hotel provides 2 bottles of distilled water (380 ml) daily, but it is recommended you buy your own at 7-11 to refill in case these aren't enough as Hong Kong is hot and humid in summer. This is a major peeve... not all rooms have opaque glass panels in the bathroom door and the bathroom itself...out of the 3 rooms, one had clear glass panels (!!!) instead of the opaque panels...which is exactly the reason why the place is ideal for couples or individual travelers. You don't want others to see you while doing solitary activities in the bath and toilet, obviously! It is quite a hassle to ask the hotel staff to paste Manila paper on the clear panels for the occupants' privacy. Another reason this is suited for couples is that the room is quite small, and adding an extra bed doesn't allow much moving space. Among the hotel staff, the front desk personnel (especially the ladies) are the most professional. They speak good English and are courteous. However, it would be difficult to make requests from the housekeeping staff as most of them barely speak English except the basics - "Thank you, good morning, etc.". Along Prat Avenue, there are a few reasonably priced Vietnamese, Thai (not to forget Chinese) restaurants that serve great tasting food...you will the best bargains during mid-day as they offer specials that include meals plus drinks. Overall, if you don't expect too much from an establishment like this compared to full service hotels, Butterfly on Prat is considered value-for-money. |

Nice little hotel in good location, slightly overrated Apr 23, 2010
I stayed at the Butterfly On Prat for three nights during my trip to Hong Kong in late April 2010.
Initially I had booked accommodation at the Hotel Largos in Jordan and at The Harbourview in Wan Chai. As my flight was cancelled due to Volcano situation in Iceland, I had to cancel those and look for new hotel on very short notice. Booking at the last minute, many hotels were already booked out, so I didn't have too much choice. I picked the Butterfly because of it's convenient location and high ratings on Tripadvisor. The location in Tsim Sha Tsui is very nice, close to MTR TST and bus stops for Cityflyer to the airport are very close. The hotel is - big surprise - located on Prat Av., so there are many bars, pubs and restaurants nearby. The room was expectedly small, but quite nice. Equipped with flat screen TV, microwave oven, fridge, electric kettle, in-room safe. Cleanliness could have been better, especially in the bathroom, but for me it was still ok. Also, there was no free WiFi in the room. Instead they had two laptop computers offering free Internet in the lobby. Somehow I don't understand why many hotels - even very expensive ones - still charge extra on WiFi... Well, this time I got me a 3G sim card from 3 at the airport, so I could use 3G internet with my iPhone and didn't mind the lack of WiFi. For someone as tall as 1,85m/6'2", the bed was way too short. Air condition was working smoothly, so I could let it run during the night. Room rates didn't include breakfast, so no complaint here ;-) Overall it was quite nice staying there, but at a price of about 90 Euro per night you probably can get a better hotel in a good location. If it were cheaper, I would recommend it 100% (for example, the Hotel Largos is just a few blocks away, has even better location to MTR and bus stops and costs 20-30% less). I don't know why this hotel has such a high rating on Tripadvisor (It's rated #25 of all HK hotels!) Would I stay there again? Definitely yes, but only if I can get better room rates! Value for money! Oct 18, 2009
This hotel is situated near Tsim Sha Sui MTR. It's about 5 mins walking distance.
It has convenience store and food outlet and restaurants surrounding it. So, when ever you feel hungry, you can just head downstairs to grab a bite! :) The room has good amenities, it comes with microwave. And also DVD player. So you could actually watch DVDs during your stay. :) |
