See Butler, Alabama Apr 29, 2017
Butler is a small town of about 1800 (down 6% since 2000) located along some back roads in Choctaw County in far southwestern Alabama near the border with Mississippi. Butler was established in 1848 as the county seat of Choctaw County and was named for Colonel Pierce Butler who died in the Mexican-American War that year. Choctaw County was established in 1847 and was named for the Choctaw People. The Choctaw County Courthouse is listed on the Alabama Register of Historic Places.

Butler has a nice little historic district with a few buildings of historical and/or architectural interest. There are no locations in Butler listed on the National Register of Historic Places but there are 2 on the Alabama Register of Historic Places.

Butler has a couple of nice veterans memorials on the courthouse grounds dedicated to veterans of the War Between the States. I feel it is important to remember the sacrifices made by our veterans and their contributions to our freedom and our way of life
