How to reach the main attractions by bus Sep 02, 2009
Taking the bus in Malaysia is very cheap and in Penang it was quite convenient (well, if you are not in a hurry). Anyway, there was no way I would drive there so I had no other choice :P
In Georgetown, you can catch all buses at Komtar (the biggest tower of the city) or at the ferry terminal. The tourist information gave me a paper with the places of interest and buses to take to reach them. This really helped me so I am sharing it with you on this review (and i will do my best to make it readable ^^). But it is still better to always ask the driver before going for the ride ;) To go to: Penang National Park, Butterfly farm, Tropical Fruit Farm --> Buses U101, U501 (destination Teluk Bahang) To go to: Tropical Spice Garden --> Bus U101 (destination Batu Feringghi) To go to: Toy Museum, Floating Mosque, Island Plaza, Wat Chaiya Mangkalaram, Dharmikarama Burmese Temple --> Buses U101, U103, U104 To go to: Gurney Plaza --> Buses U103, U105, T304 To go to: Kek Lok Si Temple, Penang Hill --> Buses U201, U203, U204, U502, T306 To go to: Flea Market --> Buses U201, U203, U204, U502 To go to: Tesco (supermarket) --> Buses U206, U307, 401E To go to: USM --> Buses U301, U302, U303 To go to Sungai Nibong Express Bus Terminal --> Buses U304, U303, T305, T306, T308 To go to: Queensbay Mall, Jerejak Ferry Terminal --> Buses U307, U705, T304, T308, 401E To go to: PISA --> Buses U301, U302, U303, U307 To go to Penang International Airport, Snake Temple --> Buses A401, U401, U305, 401E To go to Fisheries Research Institute (Aquarium), War Museum --> Buses U302, U305, U307 To go to: Pulau Betong --> Bus T403 To go to Pantai Acheh --> Bus T404 To go to Teluk Bahang --> Bus 501 Part of the My bachelor internship travel blog |

We changed buses here to go to the border and got stamped out of Thailand no problems. We then changed buses for a third time and went to get our Malaysian visa which again caused no problems and then started on the last leg of the journey… A very cramped day.... |

There seemed to be a good tourist friendly bus service on the island and I love buses so what did I do. Of course I rented a car. For a few years I have wanted to drive in Asia just to say I had done that task. Drivers in Thailand do not seem to know any rules… So you think you can drive! |

Of course not as much as buses but still they can be fun. The ferry goes between the towns of Georgetown and Buttersworth the port city on the mainland. You only have to pay for the ride on the ferry to the island and so you can ride free… Wandering around Georgetown |
