It's five places in one-what do you need? Mar 02, 2010
The restuarant, themed for Langston Hughes, is right across the street from Eatonville (themed for Zora Neale Hurston). The dinner menu isn't extensive, but they have several sections-are you in the mood for an appetizer, an entree, a burger, a sandwich, a panini, or a vegetarian dish?

If you have never been or have never heard of this place, it's like five places in one. It's a poetry corner, a bookstore, a lounge, a bar and a restaurant! This place turned me on to wild rice (served with salmon) and their turkey burgers aren't as great as Ben's Chili Bowl (about 4 blocks around the corner), but they are still good.

The service is dependent on where you sit but the vibe in there is GREAT! Table service where the waiters know you are is pretty decent. If you walk in and sit in the couch area or at a community table, you may not be spotted for 15 minutes and may have to light yourself on fire to get a waiter's attention (or snag the hostess-that's easier). There really is a corner in there for just about everyone!

If you want a more mellow time to go and study or do some work, check out the website to be they aren't having any events the night you go. If you sit in the couch area and it's winter, bring a light blanket to throw on your lap; everytime the door opens, it brings in the worst draft and this place definitely has a constant rotation of people. If you're going for dinner, you should be fine in your regualar attire.

So this place is amazing!!! Talk about somewhere I could live....fabulous bookstore filled with Liberal & Progressive Books you don't see most of the time, bar stocked with both great coffee & alcohol, food that I didn't get to try, but heard great things about, wi-fi, theater to share progressive thoughts and actions, and little nooks for study groups and meeting your friends!!! A must-visit if you can do it!!!
