The Princes Islands - Burgazada Feb 25, 2017
Burgazada was our favourite of all the Princes Island and we used to come here a lot, especially in our last year in Istanbul.

We would bring a picnic with us (Turkish loaves are perfect for picnics, climb up the island's hill and in summer swim in the sea off an area of rocks here. The Greek Orthodox Church of St John towers above Burgazada town.

A famous Turkish short story writer Sait Faik Abasiyanik lived here from 1939 to 1954 and used the island as a setting for some of his stories. Nowadays his former residence is a museum.

Sadly in 2003 Burgazada was very badly damaged in a terrible forest fire.

Nowadays I am sure most of its vegetation will have grown back.
