Great addition to your trip to Bunker Hill Momument May 28, 2012
Across the street from the Bunker Hill Monument is the oft overlooked Bunker Hill Museum. Also a part of the National Park System, the Bunker Hill Museum covers the Battle of Bunker Hill, the building of the Monument, and the history of Charlestown. Exhibits include a diorama of the battlefield in which various locations light up as the narration takes you through the action of the day. The script is based on first-hand accounts of the day, including that of Abigail Adams. The second floor also includes a very informative and colorful display highlighting the key leaders – both Patriot and British – as well as the battle itself. On the day of my visit, a “soldier” was there in full patriot dress explaining his experiences on the battlefield and showing his gear to a very entranced young boy. While the Museum doesn’t come with the same breathtaking views as from the top of the Monument, it’s certainly worth a stop on your way to or from the Monument.
