Well, Schladming is a world-famous skiing area, since quite a number of World-Cups have been held here. When we were there, they were preparing for the mountain-biking worldcup. We were there just because my aunt, who was driving, had something work-related to do there. I was able to take a look at the houses... and it was easy to imagine it as a rural village full of cows and villagers... if there wasn't a sign, saying "Room to let" or "Hotel" on every second house. The picture was not taken…

The next day was a beautiful day. Perfect conditions to go skiing. It was probably my best day of skiing ever. Every thing was perfect, the snow, the temperature and the weather. Jess did quite well for her first try, a few days more and she would have been able to drive down the whole mountain. But we didn’t had time and we wanted to go to Salzburg (Sound of Music) as well. I made a video of my down hill ride, click on the last photo to watch it. Mount Loser is not the biggest sk…

Austria is one of the most beautiful places you can go in Europe. It's not a very big country, but it has amazing landscapes and sweet little cities. Graz is one of them. I visited Graz in 1997, when I went there for an European Ecumenical Meeting, June 23-29. It was a nice experience to meet people of different rites and to rediscover things in common. But beyond the people factor, there was so much delight to wander around the town and to explore the things and places that tell a story for …

I went out one night on my own and went into a local student bar (by accident- I mean I went into the bar on purpose, I didn't know it was a student bar) in Graz's Bermudadreieck (note: every town in Austria seems to have a drinking center known as the Bermuda Triangle). There I tried to talk to someone who seemed like she might be a tourist. Boy was I wrong. She really only spoke a couple of words of English, and wasn't able to say much above the loud music. At the sa…

Our last stop for Austria was at a little town called St. Johann. We stayed at an Australian Pub called Bunny's, but in an adjoining three-storey traditional Austrian house (which for the most time, we actually had to ourselves as they weren't very busy). So it was nice to get away from our often loud fellow backpackers, although our cheeky Australian bar staff threatened to creep in in the middle of the night and freak us out by walking back and forth on the creaking floor boards!
So, Steph…

After just a day and a half in Munchen Paul decided that he would like to return to Graz as he felt there was not much he was going to be able to achieve at school in the following week. Returning to Graz was really great, to see the people again I had come to know, and the time spent with Paul in this week was excellent. Playing with fire on the Schlossburg and then making music inside the mountain is something I wont forget.

Graz a great city to visit, even if you have only a day. Visit the Schlossberg, see the Hauptplatz have lunch at Jakominiplatz and take a coffee at the Murinsel. And feel the different livestyle than Vianna. If you have more time, stay and taste a bit of Graz fantastic nighlife.
And if you like medieval stuff, don't miss to visit the medieval weapon museum - on of a kind!!
I think Graz is a place you shouldn't miss.
