Bulls Head Public House Lititz Reviews
A great pub --- no bull! Dec 17, 2013
Adjoining Lititz’ premier lodging option, the General Sutter Inn, the Bull’s Head Public House is a keeper. Modeled after a traditional English pub, the service is authentic – you seat yourself and belly up to the bar when ready to order a meal. Of course they have a stellar line up of draught beers, though surprisingly most derive from local domestic brewpubs (there are a few British imports, but only one or two in a deep selection).
The food here is terrific, and once again British themed. They must do a great job on this front, because the Full English Breakfast they offered every now and again proved so popular it is now available every Saturday morning. I ordered the Shepard’s Pie, delighted to discover it was actually made with lamb. In America the main ingredient is usually beef, which always calls to mind a fun lunch in Kennebunk circa 1998. I was dining with a British ex-pat who was the VP of Engineering where I worked and he ordered Shepard’s Pie. After taking a first bite he wrinkled his nose and exclaimed “this isn’t Shepard’s Pie, its bloody Cottage Pie” (cottage pie being made with beef).
Back to the Bull’s Head, it is hard to top good beer, good food and good service. However, all of this is complemented with a serious effort to provide an authentic setting and the pub certainly makes you feel as though you are quaffing a pint in London. I think Dan told me the bar had been brought over from an old pub in England, demonstrating the lengths they have gone to yield a true atmosphere. Highly recommended.
