Im recently back from a Skiing trip to Borovets, Bulgaria. Getting there was cheap enough. They're a reasonably poor country and are trying to attract tourism.

Golden Sands in Bulgaria is lively and has many bars and restaurants. We went HB so only ate out a couple of times but the food was good. It is also cheap.
There is a casino, bowling alley and plenty of shops. We went bowling and it was very small and a bit dirty but it was still a fun night.

Be wary of taxis. They are so cheap providing you use yellow state cabs with lights on top and adverts on cab doors. Do not use other look a likes, fare will be at least triple. Cost from airport to centre approx 10 Lev. or £3.50 sterling. Cost around city from 3 Lev to 6 Lev so cheap.
