A nice city. I get taken for $25 by a scam artist changing money in the main square, but I'm not surprised. He was acting very dodgy so I changed only a quarter of the amount I originally intended to. Watching him in action was worth the expense. I'm more concerned about my thoat. I'm coming down with a viral infection, like the kind I used to get as kid that would block off my whole airway with hard sticky mucus. I later discover that I'm allergic to ...

Overnight trains… Ahhh, the joys. But this one wasn’t so bad… I had only booked a seat for the night, cos the sleepers are more expensive, so I was just hoping that my carriage was going to be empty so I could try to get some sleep without that gnawing thought that you get in the back of your mind that you might wake up without all of your worldly possessions… I mean, when you carry everything you own in your bag, the last thing you want is to lose it, true?
As soon as I got on th...

after a day in bucharest, we decided to leave romania and head down to the black sea coast of bulgaria to a town called varna. we thought we could catch a quick overnight train that would take 6 hours, but soon discovered the train we were on terminated at the border town of russe. the train ride up to that point was amazing, we crossed the border from romania to bulgaria through the danube delta and crossed this never ending bridge which spanned the danube. crossing the danube at about 11:00...

A last minute addition to the trip - my stay in Veliko Tarnovo was quite good. The old capital of the Bulgaria, the city had plenty of history, and really captured that "middle-of-nowhere" Eastern European feel. I met several travellers from all over: Spain, Australia, Poland, America. And the hostel I stayed at was run buy an Englishman. I stayed 3 days/2 nights and each day was better than the one before it.
I had planned on going to the modern capital of...

2007 was a great year. Set off from London in July in a Nissan Micra for Mongolia. Got there 35 days later, left the Micra in Mongolia for chairty and then had to try and find my way home. Went via Trans-sib to Moscow, had to get out contry asap due to visa. Failed - got detained. Got back 2 weeks late for work and 55 days after London. Completely eyeopening and rewarding experience, if not quite tiring. Lost my camera in Mongolia so lots of friends photos other than my phone :(

THANK YOU to everyone who sends me postcards and help make my collection grow! I APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH! If you sent me a postcard and you don't see it in this blog, it means it's still on its way or I never received it because it got lost or someone stole it. Yeah, it happens.
