‘To be honest pal, I’m sure I’ve just been pretty lucky. I dunno. But I can say that after nearly a year on the road, nothing too bad or too strange has happened to me. No theft or personal harm. But I guess one person’s experience is totally different to the next’…

The wedding was beautiful, unfortunately I was extremely sick by…

So....now that I was married, I made the trip ba…

The train to Bulgaria was more what Zvonka remembered of eastern European trains... ancient and graffiti-covered, it rolled out of Belgrade late that night. We settled into chocolate colored seats that had been soaking up the sweat of travelers in this sweltering compartment since maybe the late se…

The last day had arrived. We’ve been to Nesebar again by bus and we went back by the boat. When we met Rogier & Marleen they told us the story about all the Hitler stuff in Nesebar. First we did not recognize it but now we searched for it, well it was not that difficult. There are onl…

This was our second trip back to Sofia. As we had already seen
everything, we realised once we got there that we actually had nothing

things we could buy, knowing that we could never afford them, sitting
in cafes drinking ridicu…

If you like to write your travel story, make sure you take your own writing pad with you! Wherever we went, we were not able to buy one. Eventually we had to ask for paper in the receptionroom of our hotel. Which they only use for their Fax machine. I still wonder where the children in Bulgaria buy…

My expectations of Bulgaria really were that it, probably, wouldn't be that different from Romania, given it proximity. Boy, was I wrong. The character of Bulgaria is as different as it's natural beauty. Equal to the beauty was the friendliness of the people. They were always glad to help out in any way they could. I was also wowed by the ancient monastaries, the mountain hamlets, castles, coastal villages, mosques, and so much more.
