The history of Bukhara goes back to before Christ, after 674 it became slowly islamic, with a perode of prosperity under the Samanid rulers in the 10. century then conquered and burned by Gengiz Khan in 1220. Then the Khanate of Bukhara came into existence after the conquest of Samarkand and Bukhara by Muhammad Shaybani in 1506. Under their rule Bukhara became a center of arts and literature. Later the Khanate of Bukhara was governed by the Janid Dynasty and became the Emirate of Bukhara in 1785. It was then controled by Russia from 1868 on and 2020 the soviet army moved in with a lot of destruction.
