Tex-Mex in France--Be careful! Mar 14, 2010
This was our thrid restaurant for the weekend in Reims, France and we had "discount" tickets to eat at this Tex-Mex/country-themed Buffalo Grill. Our group had over 50 people, so we pre-ordered our meals, but they took our orders again the day of our visit--strange.

At least 3 of us ordered steaks "medium" which arrived just browned on the outside and raw red on the inside. We did not order rare or steak tartar/carpaccio and neither did the other people. The 14 Euro steak was not edible--good thing we paid extra for appetizers of onion rings, chicken skewers, and cheese poppers which were pretty good.

People who ordered "well-done" got edible "medium" steaks. We had a choice on the set menu of French serloin, Belgian steak (our orders), swordfish or chicken skewers. Meals run about 19 Euro per person but our discount got them around 15 Euros.

The "Buffalo Bill" or "dollars" we received from the Kyriad Hotel were not used as they only bought you a fruit cocktail or a non-alcoholic fruit drink cocktail.

The decor was definitely Tex-Mex with wait staff wearing skirts/boots or black chaps. The staff was friendly and spoke fairly good English. The salad, fries and deserts were good, but the steaks were left on our plates. We shared a couple bottles of house red wine which was marginal but necessary to get through the meal.

Our biggest "problem" with the Buffalo Grill was the location--right across the street from a gypsy encampment in a burned-out and collapsed strip mall. We had to send out a "patrol" every 10 minutes to be sure they did not mess with our bus full of all the Champagne we bought and placed under the bus bays. However, it must have been OK since a family of 3 (man, woman and 6 year old kid on the woman's lap) arrived and parked below the line-of-sight from the gypsy encampment in a new red Ferrari (see photos).

I would have to be pretty desparate for a raw steak to go back to Buffalo Grill, but it did have a nice staff that took pretty good care of us and I'm sure it was not their fault. Just be careful about the neighbors....

Sounds like Buffalo Grill is "inconsistent" about the "doneness" of their meat...even on Easter Monday.
