Its so good to be back in Buenos Aires. After spending 6 months here last semester, it almost feels like a second home. After a 20 hour bus ride from the Triple Frontera, I finally arrived in Buenos Aires at 7 in the morning. I get to my house and of course everyone is sleeping, or at least thats what I thought... At 8 in the morning, my Argentine brother comes walking throught the door, "Trey, ya llegaste!"  That right there pretty much explains Buenos Aires, coming home at 8…

Buenos Aires, Argentina -› -› ...
When I meet a native here in Buenos Aires, the question “De donde eres” always arises. In the beginning of my stay I would always reply “Soy de los Estados Unidos” because Atlanta is where I was born and raised. Lately I have started to reply that “Soy Pakistani”. It’s been interesting to see the change in reactions in the people here as I go from being American to being Pakistani. When I reply back that I am Pakistani, I seem to get a more positive response. I think this is…

The Life of a Portena
posted by:
May 18, 2007
So as I sit in this coffee shop, on the corner of two very European reminiscent streets, I have to ask myself: how do they do it? By 'they' I mean the Portenos of Buenos Aires, as they are so proudly called. I'm running on three hours of sleep (which brings my total for the week up to 14), too many cafe con leche's to count, and the adrenaline left over from last night's club experience. In all honestly I'm starting to wonder if I'll make it to Saturday. The life of a Portena is indeed a dema…

Arrived in Buenos Aires EZE airport.  Aerolineas Argentinas is shambolic. The Argentinians are resigned to this fact.  Upon landing they all erupt into a fit of raucous applause.  Im unsure whether this is to congratulate and thank the pilot or whether it was an expression of thankfulness that they made it back to ground alive, at least this time.  Incidentally the latino men also clap for the pretty argentinian women who get on the plane.  Buenos Aires airport is c…

KNOCK OUT!
posted by:
May 05, 2007
Growing up surrounded with a predominantly male extended family, I have always prided myself in being very knowledgeable about sports. There are some sports I know more about such as basketball and soccer and there are some sports that I do not know much about. One of these sports is boxing. My experience with boxing consists of watching movies such as “Rocky” and “Million Dollar Baby” and playing the SEGA Genesis version of “Knock Out.” Consequently when …

The last few days of my trip I just stayed around Buenos Aires, strolling round town. However I did treat myself to a leather jacket. I went to a factory outlet shop called Bettina Rizzi, 547 Paraguay Street (www.bettinarizzi.com. tel: 4313-5307), which produced a tailor made very soft leather jacket in the design I wanted for 220 USD. Much cheaper than it will cost back in England. This ends the adventure, it has been full of great sights and the great memories and very warm people make me h…

After a whirlwind European trip through 10 capitols in 29 days, a friend and I once sat down, determined to try a different path.  We had followed the guidebooks, heeded the advice, and sprinted through miles of museums leaving a trail of ill-formed and hazy memories laying in our wake. It wasn’t working and we embarked on a new strategy. The next stop, Buenos Aires, was to be different.&nbs…

First impressions

What was I going to do?  I went to the club at around 1 AM--and it was closed.  I was told to come back at around 2 AM.  They were right, in LA, people think about coming home at that time.  In BA, the clubs are only getting started at 2 AM.  Walking back to my hotel--people were in the streets lining up, or the resturants were full. Back at the hostel--spent an hour killing time on the internet.  By the time 2 AM rolled by I was tired and wanting sleep.…

First Trip

On this trip, I again only had a weekend to spend in Buenos Aires, so this time I decided to stay in a gorgeous B&B outside of the city in a quaint town called San Isidro.  All I did was eat dulce de leche and drink Malbec with my friends.

Keeping it going, it is your neighborhood guest blogger again, giving Miss Cho another much needed finger rest.  She woke up complaining of Charlie Horses in her fingers and wrists, and me being the guy I am, I said that I would take over her duties for another day.  We have once again reached the weekend, with this Saturday being the 9th day that we are in Argentina with Brandon being here for a little shorter time.  The time has gone by delightfully slow.  We have reache…

Hey hey gang, well we have moved on from mendoza and headed straight for the capital Buenos Aires. We got a 14 hour overnight bus ride with a hostess, meals served on the bus, english movies rather than spanish voice overs haha it was a good trip. Arriving early in the morning we all thought great just another big city but the place is really awesome. Went to La Boca which is a very colourful district, multi-coloured buildings with murials, street dancing and awesome food everywhere, it is th…

This is a great closure to my experiences in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  There are so many things from this city that I am going to miss.  I miss home (Atlanta, Georgia), but I feel like I part I me that I have discovered is being taken away when I leave.  I can not even begin to describe how great the friends, that are locals here, were to me and how much I will miss them when I leave.  I look forward to seeing them again soon (hopefully in December), and treating them to a…

Time to Say Good-Bye

Our final day in Buenos Aires did not really include anything extraordinary. Instead we predominantly spent the day doing Luqman’s favorite activity-shopping. If there’s one thing I know about my friend, it’s that come hell or high water, nothing stands in his way of buying some nice souvenirs. (To his credit, much of the shopping is on account of his family and friends).         &…
