Buddy Holly Crash site Clear Lake Reviews
The place where the Music died. Oct 24, 2009
This is a must see for anyone who loves music and those traveling through Northern Iowa!
The memorial marks the site of the plane crash that took the lives of American greatest icons Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper along with their pilot on February 3, 1959.
is located maybe 5/6 miles north of Clear Lake.
The memorial is located about 5/6 miles north of Clear Lake on private property. When visiting please be sure to show respect to the farmers, residents and locals as well. They are generous enough to maintain the memorial and gain little in return.
To get there:
- Take N 8th Avenue north for about 5 miles. The road will become Grouse Ave
- When Grouse makes a sharp curve toward the west (or left) you will turn East onto 310th st, a gravel road.
- Make first left onto Gull Ave and drive less than 1/2 mile. you will see some grain bins on your left and just passed them are a replica of Buddy Holly's glasses marking the entrance of a short walking path along a fence to the memorial/crash site.
I parked on the right side of the road just past 315th St so that I would be out of the way of the farmers.
