Buckhannon Vacation Guide
Established in 1816, Buckhannon is the county seat of Upshur County, located in North Central West Virginia. Buckhannon received its name from Buck-on-go-hanon, a renowned chief of the Delaware Indians who enjoyed hunting on the current site of the city.
Today, Buckhannon has a population of 5,725 residents and is home to West Virginia Wesleyan College, a private Methodist college founded in 1890. For more information on the college, visit www.wvwc.edu.
Another highlight of Buckhannon is the West Virginia Strawberry Festival. Held each year in May since 1936, this week-long celebration showcases three parades, arts and crafts, and of course strawberries.
