Forrest Gump is my favorite movie of all time. Every time I travel to a city that has a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., I eat there. The menus vary at each restaurant. New Orleans' menu had Shrimp Gumbo as an appetizer. I had no idea what Gumbo was, but I ordered it anyway. It was so good. I got the "cup", which really came out in a normal size bowl, and I only counted three pieces of shrimp in the whole thing. It really was good though.
I ordered the Coconut Shrimp, which is what I always get, and it came with coleslaw and french fries. They have a mango dipping sauce for the shrimp, and it was really good. Between my friends and I, we had so much extra food. The portions of some things are plentiful. We took our left overs to go, and gave them to some homeless men. All Bubba Gump restaurants have a gift shop as soon as you walk in. They sale shirts, magnets, ping pong paddles, playing cards, DVD's, the soundtrack, key chains, stickers, temporary tattoos, collector's glasses, etc. etc. The location of the restaurant is pretty much written on everything, like the Hard Rock Cafes. The restaurants all have movie memorabilia showcased through out the restaurant. This one had Forrest's white suit that he was wearing while sitting on the bench, waiting for the bus. A lot of the drinks that you can order come with a souvenir cup, included in the price. My friend got one, but it didn't say New Orleans on it which I thought was weird. I have one from Chicago, and it has it written on there. A fun thing at this restaurant are the license plates that are on each table. Everyone has a blue one that says Run Forrest Run, and a red one, that says Stop Forrest Stop. Whenever you need a waiter to come to your table for anything, you flip it over so the red one is on display, and within' seconds, someone is at your table asking you what you need. I really liked this restaurant, and I thought the food was really good. These restaurants don't take reservations and they are usually pretty busy, so I would stay away during the busy dinner times. Also, the Hard Rock Cafe- New Orleans is literally right across the street. Part of the New Orleans, LA- May 23-26, 2008 travel blog |
