Bubba Gamp Santa Monica Reviews
Grilled food temple Dec 15, 2014
Celebrating our friend’s birthday we decided to take an evening trip to Santa Monica to have a stroll along the pier and enjoy a good dinner.
There is no shortage of restaurants at Santa Monica pier, but it was Bubba Gump which caught our attention with its “outdated” décor and intriguing menu.
When you enter Bubba Gump you are engulfed in dim colourful lights and retro style wooden décor which give this place a mysterious vibe.
The bar area created in the centre is surrounded by the dining tables hosting funky Forest Gump signs indicating to the staff whether you require their service. A shrewd idea which should be practised in more restaurants.
Most of the menu is filled with grilled dishes, fish and meat, presenting variety of dining options to cater for many stomachs. That creates also some difficulties in making your choice.
After long consideration we ordered - Accidental Fish & Shrimp (Broiled Mahi Mahi over a bed of Jasmine Rice, topped with Grilled Shrimp, a Lemon Butter Sauce and Roma Tomatoes) and Forrest’s Surf & Turf (9 oz. tender Angus Top Sirloin and succulent Grilled Shrimp, Mashed Potatoes and Frizzled Onions).
As for the drinks, we decided on Bubba’s Blue Hawaiian (Vodka, Castillo Silver Rum, gin, DeKuyper Blue Curacao, and Dole Pineapple Juice topped with Sierra Mist) and Mama’s Mango Mojito (Cruzan Mango Rum, fresh mint & lime juice and Monin Mojito Syrup).
To top it all off, as if we still had any room left, we followed our main courses with some desserts - Mama’s Best Strawberry Shortcake (With Mama’s home-made Biscuits) and Mama’s Ice Cream.
All the ordered food and drinks tasted luscious – the food was flavoured perfectly not to ruin the grilled undertone, served fresh and visually stimulating; the drinks looked wicked with their cool colours and glasses and were mixed properly.
I must admit the food was pretty enjoyable here, but a little more expensive that I would have wanted to pay (total bill for 3 people – nearly $150). I guess you have to pay extra for the location.
Would I ever come back to eat at Bubba Gump again? – Definitely yes provided I had a budget for it.
