Brussels my coming hometown

Kaija’s sister had only one day in Brussels when she visited us and she wanted to see as much as possible in this day. Unfortunately it was somewhat of a rainy day. I wanted to take her sister to some of the Sunday markets in Jeu de Balle or Gare Medi because these are places where you will meet the best Brussels atmosphere in the city. Kaija does absolute not like these places – so I decided to do a Belgian compromise, what they always does down here. I took then for a quick visit to Ma...

I went to airport around 6 am, to pick up Javier. We had been talking for over 6 mnts and was so nervos to see him, but not so nervos as I expectd. I talkd with 'sameer', becaus he has been followng this for months. He is so great, he tryd to make me less nervos, which he did. Then I called 'shom', to calm me down, which he also did, although I did wak him up and he was sleeping. Haha, but it was so good to hea...

This is my third meetup that i am attending overseas and I couldn't go there and back without having issues with my flights haha... In JFK I encountered something I have never heard of before, and didn't think was even possible... but nothing is impossible when you are talking about Delta Airlines.  My Gate was TRIPLE BOOKED!!! Thats right, there was 3 planes scheduled to fly out of my gate AT THE SAME TIME!!! Bravo Delta :) The poor intern standing at the gate desk was being bombar...

This will be my last morning in Brussels. Despite I haven’t been here long, I felt sad about the idea of living this nice city….   I met Matt downstairs, checked out, but left my bags until I come back later. It was cool being with someone just for a change, hahaha. We left the hostel and started walking around the city. We visited the Justice Palace ;) we went inside and took some pics, hahaha.   We also went to Palais Royal. It was so lovely… I felt like Royalty. We wer...

On my way to Rue Haute I also walk across some parts of the central area. I won't call it the "center" because I never walk near the Cathedral or the Grand Place, but it is the direct surrounding of the central station, so... it's close.Funny enough I like the shoddy "Marollen" more than this business area. You can find lots of open space here but hardly any green areas though. What I like most is the simple walk from the station up to the royal palace. You have to climb some large white star...

Waiting in Zaventem

I arrived in the airport in good time; for once. Being a frequent flyer I am used to be there in last moment but I actually enjoy having good time there. When I saw the queue for Aer Lingus I also felt good about arriving early; half of Ireland was going back to home again! There was only one line open and it was going like a snake in the departure area. In the beginning of the queue there was a gentleman with big troubles with his ticket; that is what I guessed anyway, because there were bi...

Ever since we decided to go on the trip, Lesley had been going on about something called the Atomium she wanted to see in Brussels. As the structure wasn't featured in my guide book I didn't really know what it was all about but happily accommodated her wish and, after a hearty breakfast on Sunday morning, we braved the extremely user friendly public transport again to head into the outer edges of the city. And I was so glad we did! The Atomium was originally built for Expo 1958, ...

Right, well this is my first blog so who knows how it will turn out!! And please be gentle if you decide to leave a comment:)Myself, my brother and a cousin of ours (also Jim) journeyed to Brussels for a weekend break and to see what the city had to offer. We flew out from Dublin airport and were due to arrive at Charleoi but were diverted to Liege due to fog on the ground. It was 4 o' clock by the time we arrived in Brussels due to the delay and so got a bite to eat, found our hostel, and pu...

The train ride to Brussels was great because it gave me some time to reflect and process all that I had been seeing.  Belgium waffles was all the stop was for, but they were worth it 100%!!!!!  The countryside was so peaceful to look at.  Yes there were things to see, yet I couldn't grasp all of it.  I instead tried to intepret the emotions that I was experiencing:1.  Being at peace.  I had seen so much of Paris in the days, yet for one of the few times in my lif...

There has to be a blog entry about a metro since i'm a metro-freak:DThe metro in Bruxelles has some cute and somu awful places. Some people call it the strangest metro in Europe, cuz at certain points the stations are so close that u can see another one from the platform waiting for your train. The most of them are already really very old looking, but fortunately some of them are refurbished and look pretty nice. My favorite is 'Heysel/Heizel' on line 1A at almost the northern terminus. But t...

I left Ineke after an awesome couple of days to her math studies on the road towards Brussels. After getting to what I thought was going to the prime place to hitch a ride I waited a while at an intersection, then saw that someone a bit further down the road hitched and got a ride within a few minutes. Clearly a sign of where I was meant to be standing if I really wanted to get to Brussels, I went over and stood there in his place. In no time at all I was sitting in the back of a blue van wit...

4 days 3 towns... everything i saw was in fast-forward mode but I enjoyed it very much. Days 1 & 4 Brussels was very beautiful to me in comparison to Athens, that i find a preety agly town (or at least not as beautiful as it could be). Architecture was great, sensitive combination of old & modern buildings, art all over the streets, very interesting museums & exhibitions, fantastic parks & nice people... I dont remember the names of the places I went, but I had a...

Brussel sprouts... from Brussels?

(I just wanted to put a random title.  This blog doesn't have anything to do with brussel sprouts.  Hehe.) I was moody for the entire morning especially when waiting to board the plane to Brussels.  I also had my "monthly visitor" so it just made me more moody.  Again, I stayed out late with Cindy last night.  I told her that I had a flight in the morning, but oh well.  Might as well spend my last night in Nice with my friend and drinking and listeni...

After the craziness that is Koninginnedag in Amsterdam, i decided a trip to Belgium would be relaxing. It was just what I needed. I spent my first two days in Brussels. I walked around, ate far too much chocolate, drank delicious beer, and had a great night out with a British friend of mine living there. My last day was spent in Brugge. Brugge is such a picturesque place. Reminds me of a fairy tale. I enjoyed walking around and also visiting a few museums.
