A modern airport Dec 30, 2010
Charleroi Airport goes sometimes under the name Brussels South with is a major overstatement; the airport is situated 63 kilometres if you drive the freeway from Brussels Airport in Zaventem. There is a fast bus from both from Zaventem and from Central Station in Brussels and the will take you there in just less than an hour.

The airport is not too big and it is also quite modern; the airport host many low price carriers and as such the airport is pure luxury. The new terminal opened in January 2008 and it has a capacity of up to 5 million passengers a year.

The Airport is also home of some important Flight Schools like Belgian Flight School which offers complete pilot training and Brussels Aviation School offering Private Pilot and Night Flight Qualification training.

Distant airport, obviously budget, but should be better right now. Aug 08, 2010
Brussels South - Charleroi Airport (CRL)

Well, it's called 'Brussels South', which is actually not true. You see this more often with the names of airports where Ryanair flies: Girona isn't Barcelona (92km away), Dusseldorf-Weeze isn't even near Dusseldorf (70 km), and Brussels South is actually in Gosselies, near Charleroi, about 50 km from Brussels.

By car:

The airport is close to the freeway, just follow the signs.

The parking was more like a gravelfield, and an expensive one aswell. Parkingfees were at least as high as some major airfields. The terminalbuilding were more like some portacabins. There just wasn't enough space for all the people out there at the time.

Public transport:

Bus A to the trainstation, or city center of Charleroi (€2,70), takes about 20 minutes.

You can also take a bus to the main trainstation in Brussels, which takes about an hour. €13/€22 single/return.

I haven't been at this airport for a while, and I haven't seen the new terminal building, Altogether it couldn't get worse than it was, I do hope the parking got better, and the staff a bit more friendly.

On the other hand, you're flying budget from this airport, don't expect much more than a simple busstation.

True, but still you may expect a little more than I got there. But like I said, I haven't seen the new terminal, it's probably better by now.
