Brunico is the Italian name for the town of Bruneck, located in the bilingual (German-Italian) area of Italy. The locals speak the local German dialect of Puschterisch, but all can speak standard German and Italian. the Bruneck people are incredibly friendly and always accommodate visitors.
The beautiful Bruneck Castle, built in the 13th century, overlooks the town and is now open for visitors, but was, until recently a high school! There are several museums around the local area including a Volksmuseum and Bruneck Museum.
Shopping is easy and many of the shops cater for a higher end of the market, especially as the area is filled with skiers come wintertime. Thus, spring and autumn are the quieter seasons, and summer to a lesser extent.
Sporting activities are in abundance all year round, and the mountains are wonderful for hiking, picking fruit and mushrooms, skiing etc.
Bruneck is full of young people and it is the biggest town in the Pustertal- this is reflected in its nightlife which is certainly lively. If clubs aren't your thing, there are many quieter bars where the locals hang out and these can provide the opportunity to mingle.
Alto Adige/ Sued Tirol is exceptional in the quality of food that can be found. The blend of german and italian food with the rich agricultural environment means that it is easy to find fresh simple and nutritious food, as well as great Italian coffee and Austrian cakes!
