People i met here, who contributed to and improved my trip:
After an exhausting ordeal getting into Brunei and the lack of an alarm clock, i awoke around 11am and quickly got ready for my only full day in the country. After heading to a food court for some lunch, i caught a local bus out to the Empire Hotel at Jerudong, about a 1 hour journey. It had been built by Prince Jefri at the staggering cost of $USD 1.1 BILLION!!! and was part of the reason why the Sultan tried his brother for wastin...

Brunei is not exactly a hot spot on the backpackers path. There is only one hostel in town. There is nothing to do at night. There are a few inters tings things to see if you happen to be passing through. There is a floating village at inhabits over 30,000 people. There are schools, houses, streets, and even a mosque out out there on stilts. We spent the better part of a day exploring the maze of walkways but never really got an answer for the simple q...

Brunei Darussalam..."not to be confused with being a country in the Middle East or the capital of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam"...that was the first thing I read when I opened up the Tourist Magazine on the plane. I guess people can get confused...Brunei is very famous for its oil, gas, gold and mosques. The country has approx. 380,000 people and spans just under 6,000 sq km. This small but very rich nation is in Asia, right next to Malaysia, sharing the same island with Indonesia, and lies next t...

River Belait seeps through the jungle in all its reflective beauty, past, present and future written upon its reflective waters unrippled but strong its magic. I am entranced and hypnotised and so thus drift in the river air as it flaps through my asthetically unporous hair, whipping my cheek bones with nature unspoilt revealing itself to me as watery whispers hums in my ears. Family history drifting past with each fern and bettlenut true calling out to me in Ibans hush. I am amazed but c...

We arrived in and I wasn’t for taking first impressions, or life would’ve been crappy for the next couple of days.
The flight was fine and everything like that, but the airport sucks.
Full stop.
Everyone from out flight retrieved their bags and got through customs… We were still at the luggage carousel. No bags spinning around. The belt was turned off and I stuck my head through to see what was going on… The staff realised we were still waiting… and miraculously, our more-expens...

Malaysia feel so much like a second home to me, having spent about 5 months here traveling all over the country, I could see myself here for an extended time sometime in the near future.

Bought a round-trip ticket to Singapore, and winged it from there. Ended up traveling by rail to Northern Thailand, with a stop in Brunei on the way back.

From Bario we flew back to Miri (with a brief stop in Marudi) and shared a cab to Brunei ... my first visit to this particular neighbour.
Bandar Seri Begawan (the capital) is quite pretty and we visited the Royal Regalia Museum and two grand mosques. In a way the Sultan's extravagance will leave something for future generations to admire! Where would we be if the pharoahs didn't force a few million slaves to build some pyramids for us today? Would we be richer as a human race?
We also ...
