I was an H1N1 victim
By Borneonikieta
It never crossed my mind that I would be part of the statistics. Before my journey, I often read the papers and raised my eyebrows everytime I looked at the rising number of infected people in other countries. I was confident that if I was careful I wouldn't …

Tick...tock...tick...tock... the time went by slowly yet surely. Sitting here, bored, admiring travel pictures uploaded by other tb members, I am fired up for another adventure. The question is where to? I have an open invitation to Dubai from a friend who has settled there. As I have never be…

I spent a week on the island of Borneo between jungle treks, orangutan reserves, canopy walks, hot springs, and grand mosques, even a city on the water. Borneo is absolutely worth the trip.

It was the best weekend by far for my 2009. I always have this "idea" that there is pretty much nothing to do in Brunei. But my yesterday mini getaway proved me wrong. Wrong..wrong..wrong.. Brunei can be as fun as any other place...all you need to do is find out from people who know....and I was lu…

And now here I am, lying in my bed..still too lazy to my bum and start packing. I need to remind myself to go for a t…

My student suggested this place during our last Tourism club. He descibed the island as "very unusual" and that alone intrigued my curiosity. So we set to tour that island that weekend.
We left the jetty around 8.30am by the water taxi. It costed about 2 dollars to get across and the journey only…

Someone told me that the year of the ox is going to be a difficult one unless you work hard. Personally, I dont really believe in this superstitious mumbo jumbo and all its jazz but I am so into the festivity spirit. So last Monday, I drove around 2 hours away from Bandar Seri Begawan to Kuala Bela…

Most of the whole day we spent in Brunei was spent travelling there and changing the numerous buses and boats involved in getting there. A guy on our bus who turned out to be Russian was actually refused entry for some reason and I think I read on another travbuddys blog that a similar thing happen…

People i met here, who contributed to and improved my trip:
After an exhausting ordeal getting into Brunei and the lack of an alarm clock, i awoke around 11am and quickly got ready for my only full day in the country. After heading to a food court for some lunch, i caught a local bus out to the Em…

Brunei is not exactly a hot spot on the backpackers path. There is only one hostel in town. There is nothing to do at night. There are a few inters tings things to see if you happen to be passing through. There is a floating village at inhabits over 30,000 people. …

Mateo arrived by airasia that night around 8.15. His flight was delayed a bit. He didn't come out from the arrival gate till close to 9 - his arrival time clashed with a big group of Chinese tourists (we could tell from the small flags held by group leader). As he came out, we said our hellos and …

Brunei.... brunei..... it is a regular name which was hitting my mind for almost 25 years when I first read a book about this unique country. It is a country out of reach from those traditional destinations, but it is absolutely one of the best preserved secrets still hidden from mass tourists. The best example of a fairy tale country with an absolutist sultan and happy citizens. Here citizens do not pay income taxes, free health care, cheap fuel and so on!

From snowy England to sunny Brunei
Last friday, I took my guests from Cambridge to do the canopy walk in Ulu Temburong. I have done it before but that was a very long time ago when I was still in uni. The things that I could remember about that trip were lots of trees, bugs and being afraid when I…

At first, I was not very happy that I had to change my plan and cut my trip in Vietnam short than planned. However, I had to go back as my mom was not very well and she needed her children around. My initial plan was to stay in Vietnam til new year's eve at least. I went back to Brunei on the 26 De…
