Brookgreen Gardens Murrells Inlet Reviews
Amazing Sculpture among Beautiful Gardens Oct 03, 2011
Brookgreen Gardens is a National Historic Landmark and a display garden with an extensive collection of figurative sculpture by American artists. The first public sculpture garden in America, it features well over 1,000 works by over 350 sculptors. In addition to sculpture, Brookgreen also features a zoo, butterfly garden, and a variety of tours, events, and excursions for visitors to enjoy.
The grounds cover four former plantations - The Oaks, Brookgreen, Springfield and Laurel Hill, so be sure to wear shoes you can do some walking in. I didn’t get there in time to take any of the excursions, so I had to be content with a few delightful hours wandering through the gardens surrounded by amazing live oaks hundreds of years old, bubbling fountains, colorful flowers, and of course beautiful sculpture. Many of the sculptures feature mythical figures such as Diana, Hercules and Pegasus, fauns, etc. carved in stone or cast in metal.
If you enjoy sculpture or even simply a place to enjoy a quiet walk, Brookgreen Gardens is well worth the time. It’s now my second favorite place dedicated to sculpture after the Rodin Museum in Paris. (Yes, I enjoyed it that much!) I’d like to say more here, but my descriptions couldn’t possibly do it justice so please check out their website.

Excursions, such as a Creek Cruise, are not included in the ticket price. These cost an additional $3 to $7. I found a coupon for $1 off admission in the CVB's Myrtle Beach Visitors Guide (http://www.visitmyrtlebeach.com/default.html). AAA members get $1 off admission as well.
