Hi cousins!

Returning back to Vancouver I spent some more time with my cousin Marieke. Her husband is a petrol head and owns a muscle car which he decided to showcase during the Langley Cruise-In, one of the largest car shows in BC. So off we went to spend some time oggling at vintage cars, 50's chevies, pimped out rides etc.  To accompany all the automative goodness there's hamburgers, hot dogs and mini donuts of course. North America as I imagined it :)And I met up with a travel buddy from my…

On Board the Radiance of the Seas ~ Vancouver
posted by:
Jun 11, 2005 - Jun 18, 2005
"Alaska.  Imagine yourself there for one moment. Your delight when you spot a grizzly bear fishing for salmon off the shores. That instant when the silence of a misty fjord is shattered by a giant humpback whale, breaching high into the air, then crashing back against the sea. A pod of majestic orcas swimming through the inside passage...  looking up at the midnight sun... This is Alaska. This is real, the adventure of a lifetime. I will be back Alaska... "(author unknown)

Seattle and Victoria Trip: Victoria Travel Photos
posted by:
Jun 21, 2007 - Jun 26, 2007
A 25 hour train trip to Seattle, Washington. The Pacific NorthWest is so lush and beautiful, amazingly it only drizzled once the entire week...and that was at the end of our day trip to Victoria, Canada. Lots of good food there, had Thai one night and Ethiopian food the next. Some really great bubble tea too!!

Vancouver, BC

I can’t even count the number of times I’ve been to Vancouver. In August of 2007, I was supposed to take a trip down to North Carolina. However, unfortunate circumstances forced me to cancel that trip. So, with two weeks to kill, I decided to take a spur-of-the moment trip to Vancouver with the intent of playing tourist. See, although I’ve been to Vancouver countless times, it was always for a weekend here, and night there, usually to watch my beloved Vancouver Canucks play a hockey gam…

On my way.

So I made it and it has been one hell of a week. I have only been here 7 days and in so little time I have accomplished so much. I have a job lined up for my local starbucks, but things get a bit tricky since I am not permitted for a working visa due to my stay only being 4 months, (supposedly you have to live here for more then 6 in order to work) The manager and crew seem extremely nice and welcoming, and i know i would fit right in. The city is amazing, our apartment is located literally i…

Le Soleil Hotel Vancouver
posted by:
Mar 19, 2007 - Mar 20, 2007
I was ill & wheatgrass kept me going (thanks to jug o juice). Beautiful scenery, shame about all the property development and industry. Up in the mountains away from the sprawl it is stunning, the mountains are breathtaking and the wildlife is incredible. Must also say, breakfasts were New York style and therefore obviously scrummy delicious feasts. Hotel - Le Soleil was fantastic, beautiful suites at affordable prices, highly recommended.

Now that I've moved to Vancouver I have been trying to check out at much of this beautiful city as possible. Although there's been a fair bit of rain (no surprises there), just about everywhere you look you get a stunning view. Just lovely!

Vancouver's excellent aquarium is in the middle of gorgeous Stanley Park. I had a great day there and was doubly pleased to hear that the animals are all rescue ones (I'm not a fan of dragging animals out of their natural habitats for our amusement). The beluga whales were particularly adorable :D

I was intending to write this blog as I went along travelling, and had thought a bit about the two day journey and what the fun parts where, and was just waiting for that little bit more to add in after I arrived at work, when I realised after three days that I'd already seen as much as I was going to see, in terms of substance at least, but whereas I had about 47 hours to take in the excitement of travelling, I ended up spending more than two months in Tahsis.  A remote town is an under…

The long, winding, and captivating road to Kelowna (2)
posted by:
May 17, 2007
(cont'd...) During that time, the weather was starting to shift to being warm yet windy, and everybody must have been excited for the coming May long-weekend. When I was asked and approached by my friend Raymond to the idea of accompanying his young family to visit Kelowna, and myself being that spontaneous sometimes, replied, "Sure! I don't see why not!". Early morning the next day, after grabbing Tim Hortons coffee,  we headed south of Highway 2 and eventual…

Heathrow -> Vancouver
posted by:
Sep 26, 2007 - Dec 03, 2007
Flight was an hour late taking off from Heathrow, nothing changes there then. The actual flight with BA was pretty good, though as usual I didn't get any sleep. Arrival into Vancouver was pretty easy, compared to the enormous queues I encountered in Toronto at Pearson about four years ago. Passport control lady was very nice and friendly, even when asking what I did for a job - I don't do anything now, as I'm travelling! Spent two nights in Vancouver. There was so much construction goi…

Vancouver - Quiet Beauty
posted by:
Sep 15, 2006 - Oct 10, 2006
Vancouver is one of those places that takes you by surprise.  Of course, it has been recognized as one of the "Best Cities to Live In" from various publications.  But it isn't as overtly obvious as a destination like San Francisco (when you think of the NW part of North America).  Rather, Vancouver has a subtle, quiet beauty that just grows on you.  After spending a few days there, you realize you don't want to leave.Yes, it does rain 250+ days out of the year there. …
