Britannia Inn Alconbury Reviews
Air Force Inns at Alconbury are OK Jan 19, 2009
The Britannia Inn on RAF Alconbury is about 15-20 minutes from RAF Molesworth. Both were B-17 bomber bases during World War II. The trip for me to RAF Molesworth was actually around 30 minutes daily because of the complicated roundabout system and the GPS directions did not match the maps provided. The best part of the Britannia Inn 2-room suites (a bedroom separate from the livingroom with 2 sinks as they were the old 1-plus-1 dormitories) was the huge refridgerator/freezer and microwave. The worst part was the pealing paint in both sinks and the old tile bathrooms. The staff was very freindly and helpful (even at 0300L) but be sure to eat by 6PM if you use the food court on base. The nearby bowling alley serves food until 9PM and beer (Heiniken on draft) until 11 PM, but you must consume it on the premisis. Britannia Inn is typical for Air Force lodging. Not great but the price is in line with per diem rates. My civilian contractor collegues stayed at the Mariott in Huntingdon and got a huge breakfast delivered daily to their rooms and it was closer to RAF Molesworth. Britannia Inn is just OK--nothing special but not too bad.
