Balloons, Balloons and yet more.. Balloons Aug 09, 2015
Now in it's 37th year, the festival is the largest event of its kind in Europe. It is held at Ashton Court, a country park just outside the city, at the beginning of August every year.

It’s a popular, free, four days event suitable for all the family which features not only the balloons themselves but also a fun fair, flying displays and firework finale each night.

When I attended on the Saturday evening the weather was perfect, warm, clear and still so the balloons were able to lift off. We watched them fill and drift gently upwards into a clear blue sky.

Later as night descended we enjoyed a the 'Nightglow' a musical medlay accommpanied by a synchronised display of illuminated balloons which finalised with a fantastic display of fireworks.

For those wishing to attend the festival, balloon displays and launches (if permitted) are held at six am and six pm. Visiting in the morning with a picnic breakfast is very pleasant and less busy.

Many years ago I had a friend whose father owned a hot air balloon, though he only took family members on rides. One of these days I will finally go up in one.
