We stayed in Andy's room for a bit and then watched some videos on youtube before they called some people to come pick us up. Louie and Hamish came in one car and Dick and Steve Lewis drove in the Roodub to pick us up Louie drove Dom and Dodd home and the rest of us went to the farm. Saturday 22nd April Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! I finally arrived in the land of Bruce and Sheila, of venomous animals, the former island of convicts and has-been cricketers. I landed early in the morning and deliberated about having a look around Brisbane before my connecting flight to Cairns later on, but decided to crash out in the airport instead for a few hours. I checked into the Virgin Blue airport lounge for the worthwhile sum of $5 (2 quid) and spent most of the day sleeping, watch...

Ankunft in Brisbane

Mr. Wendell has come to warn us....   The Lonely planet mentions 2 Koala wildlife sanctuaries in the Brisbane area. One of these offers visitors the chance to ‘Cuddle a Koala’. The LP is rather sniffy about this, favoring instead the non-cuddle option, in the way that it almost always favors the subtle over the obvious.   Usually I’m a sucker for this type of snobbery, but not today! Today I’m holding out for a hug.   The best way to get from the city centre to...

On to Brisbane, capital city of Queensland, and time for some real parties! Byron Bay, where I arrived after the Mojo 'surf' week is advertised as Australia's party town. They don't tell you that there are only two-and-a-half clubs and a handful of pubs though. Sigh. Byron Bay was a major let down: bad hostel, bad surf, bad people, bad everything. I decided to leave after a couple of days and make my way to Brisbane. Because of these lesser times I was really looking forward to Brisbane....

My Arrival

There comes the time to return, but before my return I remain in Brisbane, because I can't miss the understanding of this beautiful city. My return from Surfers Paradise to Brisbane, is also using the AirTrain, this time they collected me by taxi from my hotel and go to the Nerang station, then i take the train to "Brisbane" to Central Station, from where I went to the Pacific International Hotel. I think Surfers Paradise is to rest, walk, and for the fun; w...

Arrived this afternoon. Staying at really nice hostel. Just explored the town a bit today as pretty tired after party last night! Nice and warm at last though. Had a great few days in Brisbane. Walked around the city, hired bikes and cycled along the river. Saw the uni which looked really nice. A really nice city. Baz and I joined up with 3 guys from our hostel for the day who had hired a car to visit the mountains. We visited the Glasshouse mountains which were very pretty. Walked up to a ...

One day is really not enough to really shop through Brisbane " especially after I found a Borders! (for those of you who don’t know, Borders is a book store where you can get a cup of coffee and find a nice chair where you can curl up with a good book and just sit there..! I love it!). Since my mom is much more of a shopper than I, we decided that I keep all the bags, and she kept shopping! After a few hours in a lovely chair with a good book and a cup’a (as they say here), we met u...

Apparently Brisbane is known as Bris-Vegas, however I saw no similarity between the two cities during my time there. Hopped off the bus and there was a bit of sun and everyhing is nicer when it is sunny. Dropped off stuff and went for a walk around brisbane. Brisbane is a nice city, however there is nothing of any tourist value to do there. Went down to the water front which was quite nice but that was about it. Went to the doctors to get a prescription for my antimalarial tablets which was ...

Arrived back in Sydney after a three day train journey. During the first two days, Pam and Dave had been in the posh end of the train (complete with cabin) for the first two days, while we had opted for the more traditional super scruffy economy, no bed, no room, class.  At one point early on in the journey we tried to get through to see them in their cabin but after walking about a mile towards the carriage 'A', we found their door was locked - obviously they cannot risk the hillbi...

We made it!  After a harrowing customs experience (ask Miller whether or not the Australian authorities permit photographs to be taken in the customs and immigration area), we whisked downtown to our hotel, which was thankfully located in the heart of downtown Brisbane.  Almost thirty hours after leaving Atlanta, we were finally ready to begin our holiday.  Public transportation is a snap in Brisbane, and everyone (thus far) has been extremely friendly and helpful.&nbs...

I love the semi-tropical, relaxed atmosphere of Brisbane. The palm lined streets, plantation style homes slightly raised off the ground with stairs leading up to wide inviting verandas.Brisbane is not the big tourist haven of the Gold Coast or even the Sunshine Coast which are both one hour away in opposite directions up and down the coast; however, it is a wonderful place to visit. The Brisbane River flows through the centre of town and out to the ocean from the leafy western suburbs.  ...

Finally found the perfect weather in Brisbane!!  And what a great feeling it is! As soon as we step foot here, I knew we were going to love it . . . and we did!! Brisbane's an awesome place, very dynamic and diverse, lots to do, and it even has a beach in the city!!  So, of course, we had a grand time here.  Visited all the sights around the city, and even squeezed in one of the major tourist attractions here!!  I'd say our day at Lone Pine, the world's largest Koala s...

Back in Brisie, the builders have finished renovations at my auntie’s house.  I arrived just in time to help out with some painting and decorating, great!  Of course it was lovely to see my auntie and uncle again, cheers Jan and Andrew for putting me up (and putting up with me!) one more week.   As soon as I had the chance, I popped in the only two shops in the whole of Queensland which claimed to fix cameras damaged by sand, and surprise, surprise, they quoted me more than...
