Briones Overview

Briones is one of the 184 municipalities that make up the Autonomous Community of La Rioja (Spain). Located in the northwest corner of the Rioja Alta, the municipality, 38 square kilometers, is lying on the right bank of the river Ebro The village is located on a hill 80 meters high with clippings on the northern slope the river at almost vertical slope.

The first historical references date back to Briones Roman times - Gimileo, ancient village of Briones took its name from the Legio VII Gemina, founder of the Roman city of León (Legio) - Albeldense Chronicle refers explicitly to Alfonso I (739-757) cut down the terms of Briones and six settlements...

The ruins of the castle, as Torre del Homenaje unfortunately collapsed in 1941, without anything being done for their conservation or reconstruction, their shields, their ancestral homes speak of a glorious past and rich history, but its streets elapse and talking with its people also tell us a future full of dialogue, peace and prosperity.
