Outstanding views of the Canyon & a National Historic Landmark Jan 09, 2011
In 1896 a set of cabins and tents at the edge of the canyon were constructed. The man cabin, considered the central unit was constructed by Mary Coltier in 1935, and is present day Bright Angel Lodge. It is one of the oldest lodges in the Canyon. Many of the older tents were converted into cabins and are rented out to visitors to the Canyon. The name of the lodge is from the bright Angel Creek. It is part of a National Histori landmark. Most of them have the outstanding view of the Grand canyon. I did not stay at the lodge, but rather dined at the restaurant next door.

The service was great.

A lodge right on the rim of the Grand Canyon Apr 28, 2010
I rearranged my visit to the Grand Canyon because there was only one night left in this place. It was certainly worth it. This lodge is IN Grand Canyon National Park.

How close is it? I looked out my window and saw the canyon. Walked 100 meters out the door and I was on the ledge. That close! :D

It's located at the Bright Angel trailhead (hence the name)and has a few different accomodation options.

I took the cheapest with a double bed and shared bathrooms. Everything was clean. It was a bit rustic as are many of the lodges. I was there at the end of April and actually awoke to snow on the ground, so glad that the heating was working well and the blankets on the bed were warm.

It's a bit more expensive than most places for a comparable room (shared bathroom and all), but it's the LOCATION that you're paying for and in that I thought it was a superb value. Would absolutely love to come back and stay again. Highly recommend.
