yay for flushing toilets! Aug 30, 2008
This campground does not accept reservations and it's a first come first serve basis.
The elevation is 7,200 ft (2,200 m). We camped here on labor day weekend and it got pretty chilly at night. The temperature dropped to the high 30s and low 40s. (I highly recommend bringing a thermal pad/mattress to lay under your sleeping bag!!)
The campsite costs $14 a day and you just pick a spot, leave a tag, and then put your payment in the box. (Make sure you pay the EXACT AMOUNT because they don't give you change!!) The ranger then goes around and checks the site and verifies that you paid for it.
Some sites are bigger than others so if you want a big one, make sure you arrive early. Each site is equipped with one bear box and one fire pit.
The facility includes recycling boxes and trash. It also has flushing toilets. (TWO THUMBS UP!!) Toilet paper is provided in the restroom and they do have doors for each stall. However, you have to bring your own light to the bathroom!!
This campsite is also where volunteers stay. They usually set up shop at Glacier Point where you can take a look at the stars through their telescope.
The area wasn't too noisy and your privacy is pretty decent.
Make sure you pack up all scented items (deodorant, perfume, hand wipes, toothpaste, etc) including food in the bear box or else you'll have an unwanted visitor late evening/early mornig!!
